Health and Safety
The Northern Kentucky Health Department partners with many local agencies to prepare and plan for disasters, including weather-related disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and other public health threats. We work closely with these agencies on various disaster response activities such as emergency shelter operations and mass vaccination clinics.

Disaster Preparedness

We encourage all families to prepare for any disaster that may impact their family or community by having a PLAN and making a KIT.
Have a PLAN by talking to your family about what to do:
- When a Seek Shelter alert is issued during a Tornado
- When the power has gone out during an Ice Storm
- When Flooding is in your area
- When cell phones aren’t working
Maintain an EMERGENCY SUPPLY KIT:
- Keep up on an emergency supply of bottles of water and Gatorade
- Buy a bit extra of non-perishable foods such as crackers and cereal, soup and canned fruit or vegetables, peanut butter
- Keep extra bandaids, antiseptic, and over-the-counter medicines that your family uses
- Store extra bleach, paper towels, soap, toilet paper, and a flashlight with batteries

Chainsaw and Generator Safety

Every year, roughly 36,000 people are treated in emergency rooms as a result of accidents with a chainsaw. The risk of injury increases after dangerous weather, when trees are blown over.
