About Us

NKY Health is the local health department for four Northern Kentucky counties – Boone, Campbell, Grant, and Kenton. We have roughly 150 employees, with jobs ranging from nurses in our four health centers, to environmental specialists who inspect restaurants, hotels, and other businesses, to epidemiologists and harm reduction specialists who work to protect the public from health threats.

Interviews

Retirement

Participation in the Kentucky Public Pension Authority is mandatory for full-time employees and those working 1200+ hours/year. Members become fully vested in KPPA after 5 years. The employee contribution for those starting in KPPA after 9/1/08 is 6.0% and is tax deferred until the employee receives the funds. When an employee leaves employment prior to retirement, 5% of the funds may be returned to the employee with interest (refunds are subject to early withdrawal penalties.) Refer to www.kyret.ky.gov.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Health Reimbursement Accounts (HSA), and Premium Conversion

Employees may pay their portion of eligible insurance premiums with pre-tax dollars. Pre-tax Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) are available to eligible employees for health care and dependent care expenses. Employees who have other health insurance coverage may elect to have their portion of the employer-paid premium allocation contributed to a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA). Some health plans contain embedded HRAs.

Deferred Compensation Plan

All employees may elect to participate in voluntary retirement, in addition to KPPA, that is paid through pre-tax or post-tax dollars, available through payroll deduction. Refer to www.kentuckyplans.com.

Health Insurance

Eligible full-time employees may elect health insurance coverage. NKY Health pays a generous set dollar amount towards coverage. Coverage usually begins the second calendar month following the hire date. Refer to Health Insurance coverage.

Vision Insurance

Eligible full-time employees may elect vision coverage at group rates through payroll deduction. Coverage usually begins the second calendar month following the hire date. Refer to Vision Insurance coverage.

Life Insurance

Eligible full-time employees receive $20,000 of life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance at no cost to them. Optional additional employee and dependent coverage is available at group rates through payroll deduction.

Dental Insurance

Eligible full-time employees may elect dental insurance coverage. NKY Health pays up to the cost of the premium for employee-only coverage in the mid-level plan and the employee pays the rest for the premium plan or to insure dependents. Coverage usually begins the second calendar month following the hire date. Refer to Dental Insurance coverage.

Sick Leave

Eligible full-time employees start with 40 hours and accumulate 3.7 hours every two weeks. Eligible part-time employees are prorated based on hours worked. Unused time never expires.

Parental Leave

Eligible employees receive up to six weeks of paid parental leave for the birth or adoption of their child.

Civil Leave

When summoned by court to serve as a juror or ordered to serve as a Reservist in any branch of the U.S. Military eligible employees receive full pay. Eligible employees also receive full pay for a pre-approved voting or election leave.

Family / Medical Leave

Eligible employees may receive up to 12 weeks per year of protected, unpaid time off in certain circumstances and up to 14 additional weeks in certain military circumstances.

Annual Leave

Eligible full-time employees start with 40 hours and accumulate between 4.2 to 8.4 hours every two weeks, based on length of service. Eligible part-time employees are prorated based on hours.

Holidays

Eligible full-time employees receive 13 paid holidays per year, 14 in a federal election year.

Public Student Loan Forgiveness

Many of NKY Health’s employees qualify for student loan relief via the Federal Public Student Loan Forgiveness program.

Tuition Assistance

Eligible employees seeking to further their academic training when it relates to their employment may receive all or partial assistance for tuition.

Training

Eligible employees seeking to hone their work-related skills may receive all or partial assistance for seminars, workshops, computer classes, etc.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Eligible employees and their immediate family members are eligible for up to 8 one-hour-long sessions with the St. Elizabeth Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Parking is provided at no cost to all employees.
