Community Outreach Events

NOT EVERYONE CAN GET to our health centers when it’s convenient. We understand that.

That’s why we have two mobile health units that travel throughout our four-county region and make testing and preventative services available to those in need.

Some outreach events happen weekly, some monthly, and some on special occasions, such as national awareness days for specific diseases.

Each of the mobile units at these events is equipped to offer a range of services, such as:

Syringe Exchange

Clean needles and injection equipment are exchanged on a one-for-one basis, with contaminated syringes safely disposed of.

Naloxone Kits

Free naloxone kits are available, which include two doses of nasal spray naloxone, directions on how to administer naloxone, and information about treatment resources.

Fentanyl/Xylazine Test Strips

Test strips are available to check drugs for the presence of the extremely dangerous synthetic opioids fentanyl and xylazine.

Treatment Programs

For those interested in getting help stopping their drug use, information is available about local substance abuse treatment programs.

Smoking Cessation

Information and resources are available to help people stop smoking.

HIV and HCV Testing

Individuals can get tested for HIV and Hepatitis C, which results available immediately and resources for those who test positive.

Other Services

Other safety and harm reduction items are available, such as condoms, gun locks, and pregancy test kits.

Flu and Covid Vaccines

At certain times of year, and if available, nurses can administer Covid and/or flu vaccines.

Prescription Drug Disposal

Unhealthy use of drug abuse often starts at home, with the the use of unused medications. Unwanted prescription drugs can be safely disposed.

Weekly Syringe Exchange Events

Syringe Access Exchange Programs (SAEP) are a tool to reduce the threat of infectious disease spread through infected equipment, as well as a way to connect people who inject drugs to treatment resources and other health services.

Three SAEP sites are available each week.

Other services and resources are available in addition to syringe exchanges.

Our Mission

The Health Department’s mission is, in part, to protect the health of all Northern Kentuckians, including those with substance abuse issues. We encourage people to seek treatment, but if they are not ready to do that, we at least want to protect them from other diseases common to drug use. By exchanging syringes, this also prevents them being improperly disposed of and are a hazard to the public and first responders.
