HIV Prevention & Testing
Your health is our goal, and we want to help you achieve that by providing you with the resources and knowledge you need before, during, and after an HIV diagnosis. Our trained experienced staff can help answer questions and get you on a path toward a healthy life with HIV.
We’re With You Every Step of The Way

Preventing
We help protect you and your partners with free condom distribution, PrEP referrals, and clean needles.

Testing
We provide anonymous and confidential HIV testing and counseling, with results available during your visit. We also have take-home test kits for greater privacy.

Connecting
For those who test positive, we help connect you with your next steps by providing support, referrals, and guidance.
Preventing
The best way to avoid contracting HIV is by taking preventative measures ahead of time. There are multiple options for protecting yourself and your partners:
.
-
Syringe Access Exchange Program
HIV is often spread through the use of infected needles, so we provide free clean needles, equipment, and other health services to individuals who inject drugs. Times and locations of our SAEP services can be found below.
. -
PrEP
PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a daily medication for persons who are not infected with HIV that can reduce risk of infection by greater than 90 percent. NKY Health provides referrals for PrEP providers in the region.
.
-
PEP
PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) is medicine that prevents HIV after a possible exposure. PEP must be started within 72 hours after a recent possible exposure to HIV.
-
Condoms
Correctly using condoms provides a layer of protection for you and your partner, and can reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV and viral hepatitis. We offer both male and female condoms free in our health centers, at our mobile sites, and at a number of locations throughout the region.
Testing
The only way to find out if you are infected with HIV is to get tested. The Health Department provides free anonymous and confidential HIV testing, with results available during your visit. We also offer takehome test kits for greater privacy. If your test is reactive, you will have to have a blood test to confirm the HIV infection. Health Department staff then provides the confirmatory testing and helps link you to medical care and case management services. HIV testing is available at:
