Preventative Services

Disaster Preparedness

The Health Department works with partner agencies and community members to plan for disasters. This includes bioterrorism, infectious disease outbreaks and other natural and man-made public health threats and emergencies.

Northern Kentucky residents can help prepare for common disasters by assembling a preparedness kit, and learning more about health concerns in two common scenarios in our region: floods and power outages.

Disaster supplies

Homeowners in Northern Kentucky should keep supplies on hand in case of disasters. This includes food, water and medications.

Ready.gov provides tips on how to assemble your kit.

Flooding

Health considerations during flooding events include clean water supplies, exposure to communicable diseases, food safety and disruption to sewage systems. For a general overview of flood preparedness, visit Ready.gov.

Volunteering in a disaster

In the event of a bioterrorist attack or natural disaster, the Health Department will need a large number of volunteers to help support efforts to restore the community to normalcy. Regardless of your background, residents of Boone, Campbell, Grant and Kenton Counties can volunteer their time and skills in the event of a disaster or other public health emergency.

The Medical Reserve Corps recruits medical professionals, including physicians, nurses, paramedics and mental health professionals, as well as citizens with non-medical backgrounds. Learn more
