TEAM Award – The Teams Involved in the Mobile Syringe Access Exchange Program (SAEP)

The TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Award has been part of NKY Health’s formal rewards and recognition program for several years now. The TEAM Award recognizes employees for outstanding team performance that demonstrates a measurable impact on the community and/or the Northern Kentucky Health Department.

The sixth TEAM Award goes to the teams involved in the success of the Mobile Syringe Access Exchange Program (SAEP)!

These services have really been an interdivisional team effort. Since the launch in July 2018, Clinical Services staff have worked tirelessly, often in extreme weather conditions, to provide harm reduction services on the mobile unit in Newport on Tuesday afternoons and Covington on Thursday afternoons. Services include HIV testing, Narcan overdose reversal kits, hepatitis A vaccinations, health education, and the exchange of new syringes for used ones, all in an effort to reduce the harm from injection drug use. Population Health staff provided additional HIV testing and the funding for Narcan to prevent overdose deaths. Our Disaster Preparedness Coordinator and Clinical Services Administration provided logistical support for the program.

Together, these staff adapted to different situations and had to overcome operational challenges to carry out this high quality program with integrity. They have all had a role to play in all of the work before, during, and after the mobile unit rolls up to the respective St. Elizabeth parking lot each week.

Congratulations to the following staff on the Mobile SAEP teams:
