Note: This is the third installment in a series of columns discussing our agency’s core values.
This month, I am pleased to be able to write about excellence.
More than any of the other core values, I like most to talk about excellence at new employee orientation. Why? Because excellence is not perfection. The saying “Nobody’s perfect,” holds true for most of us, myself included.
While excellence is not perfection, it’s also not mediocrity.
At NKY Health, we do expect employees to come to work, focused on doing their best. For our agency, excellence is striving to meet customer and community needs by providing the highest quality services, with a highly skilled workforce, through individual efforts and teamwork. See? The word “perfect” isn’t there.
Excellence also describes the quality that we are relentlessly pursuing as we work towards national re-accreditation. For the past six months, three teams have been compiling documents, writing and reviewing narratives to describe the excellent work we do—and how our efforts conform to the Public Health Accreditation Board’s standards and measures.
Although the process has been time-consuming, it has provided an opportunity to see many examples of how NKY Health staff are demonstrating excellence as you carry out our mission and provide programs and services. It is this pursuit of excellence, above all others, that will make us shine in our application for re-accreditation in 2018.
We should all continually work to be outstanding or extremely good at our job duties and provide top-notch programs and services to our stakeholders. How’s that for an “excellent” idea to start off your new year?
