Healthy Monday: Resources for Communities
The City of Covington is in Northern Kentucky across the river from Cincinnati. It is comprised of 19 neighborhoods with approximately 43,000 residents. Healthy Monday was implemented in Covington in two ways: through the Monday Mile and Meatless Monday.
In the spring of 2010, the Monday Mile program was initiated through identifying and mapping mile routes in 14 of the neighborhoods. Community residents participated in neighborhood walks using the designated Monday Mile routes.
Covington is known as a destination spot for local fare. In the summer of 2010, restaurants in the community were provided the opportunity to participate in the Meatless Monday campaign through an invitation from the Mayor’s office. Seven restaurants chose to actively promote Meatless Monday.
