Data surveillance and tracking
Physicians and hospitals report communicable diseases as required by state law to the Health Department. Qualified Health Department staff provide investigation of the cases and report the communicable diseases to the state office which reports to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Providers may also use the Kentucky reportable disease form to report certain illnesses. Please note that this form is to be used by medial providers only. Completed forms should be faxed to 859.578.3689.

Disease education
For information on communicable diseases--transmission, prevention, and treatment--for community groups, health professionals, schools or businesses, call 859.363.2070. The Health Department's Child Care Health Consultation staff produced a manual for child care providers with information about various disease symptoms and preventive measures.

Proper hand washing is the most effective way to stop the spread of germs. Learn more about hand washing.

HIV testing and counseling
Two methods of testing are available: blood and rapid oral swab. Blood tests are done with a needle; the rapid oral swab test takes a sample of fluid and tissue using a small, flat brush inserted in the mouth and rubbed against the gums above and below the teeth. Blood tests are available by appointment at the county health centers; oral tests are offered at various times/locations throughout the month.

HIV/AIDS case management
HIV/AIDS case management services provide support, stabilization and referrals to community resources for persons living with HIV/AIDS and members of their households. Services are available to those living in the counties of Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Grant, Gallatin, Kenton, Owen and Pendleton. Learn more.

Immunization education
For immunization education for community groups (health professionals, schools, businesses and others), call 859.363.2070.

Sexually transmitted infections
Diagnostic testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases/infections are available at all county health centers. Services are confidential. Learn more.

TB screening and control
Diagnosis and treatment for tuberculosis patients, their contacts, and persons who have a positive TB skin test are provided. Services available at all county health centers.
